Defence Minister Christopher Musa has said anyone who supports terrorists will be treated as a criminal.
He made the statement on Monday while reacting to a Nigerian Air Force airstrike carried out in Jilli, Borno State, over the weekend.
Speaking after a security meeting in Kaduna with the state governor and heads of security agencies, Musa said the operation sends a clear message to people working with terrorist groups. He stressed that anyone found helping insurgents will face the same punishment as the attackers.
“A friend of a thief is a thief,” he said, warning civilians against associating with or giving any form of help to terrorists.
Musa advised residents to stay away from areas used by insurgents, noting that being close to them or working with them could have serious consequences.
The airstrike was carried out near the village of Jilli in Gubio Local Government Area. It targeted what the military described as an ISWAP hideout and logistics base.
According to the Nigerian Air Force, the operation was based on intelligence and aimed to neutralise terrorists and destroy their equipment.
However, there are reports that the strike may have hit a weekly market in the area, with civilians and cross-border traders said to be among the casualties.
Musa maintained that the strike should serve as a strong warning to those aiding insurgents. He restated the military’s plan to step up operations against terrorist networks.
