Air Peace, is set to launch international flights from Gateway International Airport, Ogun State to London this summer. The airline's CEO, Allen Onyema, revealed this while addressing newsmen after touring the airport's facilities with Governor Dapo Abiodun, during it's Commissioning.
Recall that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Ogun on Saturday for the commissioning of different projects, and the new airport was part of it.
Onyema stated that Air Peace will operate flights to London Gatwick and Heathrow airports, marking a significant achievement for Ogun State's aviation sector. He commended the state government for the world class aviation facility, describing the airport as one of the best equipped in Sub Saharan Africa.
"This is one of the best-equipped airports in Sub-Saharan Africa, and Air Peace will not sit back and watch this facility go unused," Onyema said. He highlighted the airport's 4-kilometre runway, capable of handling large aircraft like the Airbus A380, and announced plans to deploy Air Peace's Boeing 777 fleet for the London route.
Onyema further revealed that he has received approval from the Minister of Aviation to proceed with the flight operation, stating that the project is a national asset.
Governor Abiodun announced plans to expand the airport's ecosystem with an international conference centre and a 550-room five star hotel, aiming to position Ogun State as a global business and tourism hub.
Cargo operations have already begun with Allied Air, and Ethiopian Airlines is set to launch services soon. Another European carrier will also start cargo services. Abiodun expects around 50 cargo flights between April and year end. Gateway Airlines has acquired two Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft to enhance connectivity within Nigeria.
