A 25-year-old student at the Federal University of Education Kontagora, Seyi Simon Oyedeji, was fatally stabbed during a welcome party for new students.
The incident took place on April 4, 2026, at the university's hall in Kontagora, Niger State. An altercation between Oyedeji and 18-year-old Jafar Musa, a Man O' War unit member, turned violent, resulting in Oyedeji's death.
Sources indicate the dispute began as a minor misunderstanding but escalated into a physical confrontation, with Musa allegedly using a dagger to attack Oyedeji.
Oyedeji was taken to the General Hospital in Kontagora, where he succumbed to his injuries. Musa has been taken into custody and is facing investigation.
Niger State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident, stating that the police received a report at 1:40 a.m. on April 5, 2026.
"The victim was taken to the General Hospital, Kontagora, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect is under investigation, and further probes are ongoing," Abiodun said.
The university community is reeling from the loss, and authorities are working to ensure justice is served.
