Four-Day Ordeal Ends: 13 Kidnapped Benue Passengers Freed

J oint security teams have rescued the last 13 passengers abducted on the Makurdi–Otukpo road in Otukpo LGA, Benue State, on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. The victims regained freedom in the early hours of Sunday, April 19, 2026. Benue State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, confirmed the development. No details of the rescue operation have been released yet. The attack happened on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, when gunmen blocked a Benue Links state-owned bus and took several passengers. Among those abducted were young men and women traveling to Otukpo for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. NUC to Review NYSC Ban on NOUN Graduates

T he National Universities Commission (NUC) will re-examine the policy that stops graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) from taking part in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). NUC Executive Secretary Abdullahi Ribadu announced the plan after the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, raised concerns about the rule. The Oba, who also serves as NOUN’s chancellor, described the exclusion as unfair to the university’s graduates. According to NAN, the traditional ruler called for a policy review to allow qualified NOUN graduates to serve. He noted that the current ban puts them at a disadvantage compared to other university graduates. Nigerian Football in Mourning as Former NFA Boss Galadima Passes On

N igeria’s football family is in mourning again after the death of former Nigeria Football Association (NFA) president, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima. He died on Saturday in Kano at the age of 74. The news was first shared by Sani Toro, a former General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). In his message, Mr Toro paid tribute to the late football chief. “I regret to announce the death of our respected Alh Ibrahim Galadima, former NFA Chairman, today in Kano. May Allah reward him with Aljanna Firdausi,” he wrote. The NFF also released an official statement to confirm the sad news.
