Two workers with the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company who were kidnapped last week are still being held, the company said Monday.
IBEDC said the staff were taken on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, while working in Ogun State. Six days later, they remain in captivity.
In a statement from its Ibadan office, the power firm said it is worried about the safety of the workers and is working with security agencies to bring them home.
“We are deeply concerned about this situation, and our thoughts are with our colleagues and their families at this difficult time,” IBEDC said.
The company said it is in close contact with the families of the victims and is giving them support. It declined to share more details, citing the delicate nature of ongoing rescue efforts.
“Given the ongoing efforts to resolve the situation, we request understanding and restraint as we prioritise the safety and well-being of those involved,” the statement added.
But the Ogun State Police Command has disputed that the kidnap took place in the state.
According to a Punch Newspaper report, Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said in a telephone conversation that the command has no record of the incident.
“No such incident happened in Ogun State. It did not happen in Ogun State. A lot of reporters have called about that issue, but it’s not in Ogun State,” Babaseyi said.
He advised journalists to check with neighbouring states, insisting: “There is nothing to respond to; nothing of such happened in Ogun State.”
The conflicting accounts come as attacks on utility workers continue to raise safety concerns across the country.
