Adeleke Returns As Osun Governor

G overnor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected for a second term as Governor of Osun State. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the result at about 7:24am on Sunday after completing the collation of results from all 30 local government areas at the collation centre in Osogbo. Voting had held on Saturday, August 15. Adeleke, who ran on the platform of the Accord Party, got 511,067 votes. His main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, scored 444,815 votes. That means Adeleke won by 66,252 votes. With this result, Adeleke will lead Osun State for another four years. The breakdown showed that the governor carried 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. The State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, announced the final figures after verifying all the results. Enugu Govt Threatens Fines, Prosecution Over Defaced Bus Shelters

T he Enugu State Government says it will no longer tolerate people who paste posters or damage its new bus shelters and other public transport facilities. The warning came on Thursday from the Commissioner for Transport, Obi Ozor. He spoke through the ministry’s spokesperson, Odumegwu Chinwendu. According to Ozor, the bus shelters and other facilities were built with a lot of government money. The aim is to give residents a cleaner, safer and more modern transport system. But the ministry said it has noticed more people sticking posters, stickers, banners and handbills on these facilities without permission.  “That practice is illegal and unacceptable. It will no longer be tolerated,” Ozor said.
