T he National Association of Nigerian Students has praised the management of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State for running the federal student loan scheme with honesty and openness. The commendation came on Thursday when top officials of NANS, led by Secretary General Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, visited the polytechnic. They were received by the Students’ Union President, Comrade Khalifah, other union leaders, and the Rector, Dr. M.A. Onasanya. During talks with school management, NANS said it discussed key issues affecting students including welfare, security, learning conditions and overall growth of the institution. L agos State University has condemned the attack on one of its students following a video that spread widely on social media. The university said in a statement on Friday that the incident involved students of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM, Ikeja. But it stressed that the fight did not happen inside the school. It occurred at a private hostel outside the campus. According to LASU, the student who was assaulted reported the matter to the police immediately. The police are now handling the case. The university also said it has started its own disciplinary process based on school rules. T he United Nations has voted to change how we see the world, according to BBC News , by adopting a new map that shows Africa in its real size. For more than 400 years, classrooms, offices and phone screens around the world have used the Mercator map. It was made in 1569 to help ships sail, but it has one big flaw. When you try to put a round world on flat paper, countries near the middle look smaller. Because of that, Africa has looked almost the same size as Greenland for generations. The truth is very different. Africa is about 14 times bigger than Greenland. Africa covers roughly 30.4 million square kilometres, while Greenland is about 2.2 million. That distortion did more than confuse geography students. Many Africans and campaigners say it shaped how the continent is viewed making its land, people and opportunities look smaller than they really are. Now that may change.
