Lagos State University has condemned the attack on one of its students following a video that spread widely on social media.

The university said in a statement on Friday that the incident involved students of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM, Ikeja. But it stressed that the fight did not happen inside the school. It occurred at a private hostel outside the campus.

According to LASU, the student who was assaulted reported the matter to the police immediately. The police are now handling the case. The university also said it has started its own disciplinary process based on school rules.

Management described the attack as disturbing and against everything the institution stands for.

“We do not tolerate violence of any kind,” the statement said. “Whether it happens on campus or outside, assault, intimidation or harassment of students, staff and visitors is completely unacceptable.”

LASU said its mission is to produce graduates who are strong in both learning and character. Because of this, the university urged students to act responsibly, avoid risky situations, and speak up when they notice anything wrong.

The school also appealed to parents and guardians. It asked them to support the university’s values, respect institutional rules, and guide their children to uphold discipline and integrity.

Signed by Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, the statement added that LASU remains focused on keeping students safe.

“The university is committed to ensuring the welfare and academic success of every student,” it read. “We will continue to provide a secure environment for teaching and learning.”
