Adeleke Returns As Osun Governor

Governor Ademola Adeleke has been re-elected for a second term as Governor of Osun State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, announced the result at about 7:24am on Sunday after completing the collation of results from all 30 local government areas at the collation centre in Osogbo. Voting had held on Saturday, August 15.

Adeleke, who ran on the platform of the Accord Party, got 511,067 votes. His main challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, scored 444,815 votes. That means Adeleke won by 66,252 votes.

With this result, Adeleke will lead Osun State for another four years.

The breakdown showed that the governor carried 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. The State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, announced the final figures after verifying all the results.

The race was tight and both men enjoyed strong support across the state. But in the end, Adeleke pulled ahead to keep his seat.

The ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, also contested in the election. He finished third with 17,180 votes and did not win any local government area according to the results released by INEC.

The election came after months of campaigns and political activities as different parties tried to convince voters to support them for the next four years.

For Adeleke, the victory is another big win and confirms that voters still trust him to lead the state. For Oyebamiji and the APC, the loss means their plan to take over the government did not work, even though they won in 11 local government areas.

With INEC’s official declaration, Ademola Adeleke has now been confirmed as the winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
