Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have recovered 2,326 kilograms of imported cannabis worth over N5.8 billion in a raid on a Lekki mansion, according to Vanguard Newspaper.
The Special Operations Unit of the NDLEA stormed the stash house at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on Friday, May 8. Officers found 4,000 parcels of “Loud”, a potent strain of cannabis, with an estimated street value of N5,815,000,000. Two Mercedes Benz buses and various designer sachets used for packaging the drugs for retail sale were also seized at the location.
In a separate operation on Wednesday, May 6, NDLEA officers raided a makeshift “skuchies” production factory in Ijora Badia, Lagos. Two suspects, Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege, were arrested at the scene while allegedly mixing cannabis with other illicit substances. Authorities recovered 270 litres of the prepared skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said three persons living with disabilities were also arrested for drug trafficking in separate operations across the state during the week.
Across the country, NDLEA commands continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization campaigns in schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities. Lectures were held at Ta’al Model Secondary School in Lafia, Nasarawa; Federal College of Education, Ilawe Ekiti; traditional rulers in Udi LGA, Enugu; Adventist Secondary Technical College, Owerrinta Isialangwa LGA, Abia; and Golden Anchor Secondary School, Shomolu, Lagos. Other outreach events took place at Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron, Akwa Ibom; Mallam Ibrahim Islamiyya School, Rano, Kano; and Isemi-Ile Grammar School, Isemi-Ile, Kajola LGA, Oyo State.
NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended officers from the Special Operations Unit and the Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos commands for the arrests and seizures. He praised their balance of drug supply reduction efforts and public sensitization, and urged personnel nationwide to sustain the momentum.
