More than 2,500 police officers have been deployed across Ijebu Ode and surrounding communities as Ogun State ramps up security ahead of the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival.
The Ogun State Police Command said the operation is meant to ensure a safe and orderly celebration for the thousands of tourists, dignitaries, and residents expected to attend the historic cultural event.
Leading the deployment, Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni said officers from multiple units have been mobilized. The team includes frontline officers, the Police Mobile Force, SWAT, the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping and Monitoring Units, the Force Intelligence Department, the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, and the Motor Traffic Department.
Residents and visitors will notice a heavy but visible police presence throughout the festival period. Armoured Personnel Carriers, patrol vehicles, and motorbikes have been stationed at strategic points. Plainclothes detectives, surveillance teams, and rapid response units are monitoring the Ojude Oba Pavilion, major highways, and all key entry routes into the town.
Attention is also being paid to hotels, churches, mosques, parks, markets, and residential areas where large crowds are expected. Police said the focus is on intelligence-driven policing to manage crowds, control traffic, detect potential threats early, and respond quickly to any emergency.
All Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical unit leaders have been placed on alert. Continuous patrols and stop-and-search operations are underway, with particular attention on the Sagamu Interchange, the Ijebu Ode–Benin Expressway, and the Molipa area to prevent gridlock and block criminal activity.
CP Ojajuni instructed officers to be firm but professional, reminding them to remain polite and uphold citizens’ rights. The command is also working closely with traditional rulers, community leaders, transport unions, and festival organizers to share intelligence and coordinate efforts.
The police warned that anyone planning to disrupt the event will face decisive action. Organizers and security officials are urging the public to remain vigilant, cooperate with safety rules, and watch over children during the busy celebrations.
