T he Federal Ministry of Education has announced new steps to address weeks of public frustration over the 2026 WAEC results. After a meeting with the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, NAPPS, the Ministry said it would not order a full independent investigation into the West African Examinations Council for now. The meeting between the Honourable Minister of Education and NAPPS followed a wave of complaints from schools, parents and students about how WAEC handled this year’s WASSCE. In a summary dated 3rd September, NAPPS listed 10 agreements reached by both parties. A major outcome of the meeting was the decision to focus more on NECO. The Ministry explained that its control over WAEC is limited because the body is run jointly by several West African countries. The university said in a statement on Friday that the incident involved students of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM, Ikeja. But it stressed that the fight did not happen inside the school. It occurred at a private hostel outside the campus. The Federal Government has announced that the First Niger Bridge in Onitsha will be closed to all vehicles for two weeks to allow urgent repair work. In a statement released on Friday and signed by the Acting Federal Controller of Works in Anambra, Timothy Emenike, the Federal Ministry of Works said the closure will start on Monday, September 7, 2026 and end on Monday, September 21, 2026. According to the ministry, engineers who inspected the bridge found that the road surface has worn out and some parts have been damaged by vandals. S hock has gripped the Akinode/Ibogun community in Ogun State following the deaths of a Celestial Church evangelist, Abidemi Odukoya, and his wife, Adenike, who died separately within a week after a reported fight at their home.
