Ex-Worker Confesses to Killing Retired OGTV Anchor

Three men have been arrested for the murder of retired Ogun State Television presenter Madam Olakitan Oyesiku and her guard, Pelumi Adetayo, the Ogun State Police Command said Thursday.

Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni told journalists in Abeokuta that the main suspect is a former worker of the deceased. The suspect told police he planned the killing because of past issues he had with her while working at her home.

Police got the report on June 21, 2026, at about 4pm. A caller told Owode-Egba Police Station that something looked wrong at Madam Oyesiku’s house. When officers arrived, they saw the front door was partly broken and the security post was locked. Inside, they found Adetayo, 38, dead in the security house, and Madam Oyesiku’s body in her living room with blood around her. Her Lexus RX 330 SUV was also gone.

Detectives began a full investigation using intelligence and tracking tools. On June 22, they found the missing SUV in Onikolobo, Abeokuta. The thieves had taken out the key and removed the number plate to hide it, but the plate was discovered under a seat, which proved the car belonged to the late broadcaster.

A handwritten note left at the scene was sent for forensic tests. The results gave police strong leads that helped them track the suspects.

On June 24, officers arrested 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip at a building site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer. He admitted his role in the crime and named two accomplices: 27-year-old security guard Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and 36-year-old bricklayer Sobu Obafunsho. Both were later arrested.

Philip told police the attack happened on Saturday, June 20, 2026, in the afternoon. The men overpowered Adetayo first, used him to enter the house, attacked Madam Oyesiku, then killed the guard before driving off with her car.

After their confessions, police searched places linked to them and recovered a broken hammer, cutlass, wooden plank, black pen and other items connected to the crime.

CP Ojajuni said the suspects will still get a fair trial even with the confessions and evidence. He added that investigations are continuing to build a solid case for court. “We are committed to ensuring justice for the victims and that everyone involved faces the law,” he said.
