Ogun Court Remands 3 Suspects for 60 Days Over ‘Aunty Kitan’ Murder

Three men standing trial for the murder of popular Ogun broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku and her security guard will spend the next 60 days behind bars, an Abeokuta court has ruled.

Sitting in Isabo on Monday, Chief Magistrate O.T. Odubanjo granted the police request to remand the suspects at the Nigerian Correctional Centre. They will remain there until September 10, 2026, when the matter will be mentioned again.

The case stems from the killing of 67-year-old Oyesiku, fondly known as “Aunty Kitan,” and her guard, Pelumi Adetayo. Their bodies were found on June 20 inside the broadcaster’s home in Agodo, Kobape area of Abeokuta. Oyesiku, a retired OGTV presenter, was discovered in her room lying face up with bloodied tissues close to her. Adetayo was found dead inside the gatehouse, with the door locked from outside.

Police said their investigation led to the recovery of Oyesiku’s missing vehicle and the arrest of three people. The suspects are Sodeinde Olajunwon Phillip, 22, who once worked as a guard for the deceased; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, also a security guard; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.

When they were brought before Court 3, police lawyers asked for a 60-day remand to allow the Director of Public Prosecutions to review the case and decide on charges.

AS Abiodun, the legal officer at the State CID, Eleweran, told the court the request was made under Section 306 of the Ogun State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, 2017. He said it was backed by a 24-paragraph affidavit from ASP Saka of the Homicide Unit, plus 17 exhibits and a written submission.

Abiodun pleaded with the court to approve the application so that justice could take its course. The magistrate granted it.

News of “Aunty Kitan’s” violent death shook Ogun residents, many of whom grew up listening to her voice on OGTV. With the suspects now remanded, investigators have more time to conclude their findings before the case moves to a higher court.
