Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has told the state Attorney-General to pull back the case against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He made the announcement on Sunday on Channels Television. It came just hours after he was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election.
According to Adeleke, President Bola Tinubu called him directly and asked the EFCC to unfreeze Osun’s allocation account.
“I have dropped that issue. I asked my Attorney-General to stop the case. The President handled it well. He reached me himself,” Adeleke said.
The state government went to court on August 5, 2026. The case was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja with the number FHC/ABJ/CS/1762/2026. Osun wanted the court to cancel the EFCC’s order freezing its account and also asked for N2 billion in damages.
The EFCC said it blocked the account because it was looking into claims that public money in the state was not properly managed.
After the matter drew criticism, the President ordered the commission to lift the freeze. He explained that people usually blame the presidency for what federal agencies do, even when he is not informed.
Adeleke also talked about reports that some of his aides were invited by the EFCC. He said he sent his lawyers to go with them, and those who appeared were later released. He described the invitations as politically driven.
The governor said Gboyega Oyetola, the former Osun governor who is now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, was behind the pressure.
“This is Oyetola. He is the President’s cousin and he keeps mentioning the President’s name,” Adeleke claimed.
But he added that he does not think the President knew what was happening.
“Most of these things, the President is not aware. He has too much national and international work to do. That is why he called me to end the EFCC matter,” he said.
With the lawsuit now withdrawn, Adeleke said his government will now concentrate on governance after his re-election.
