NFF Sacks Super Falcons Coaches After Missing World Cup

The Nigeria Football Federation has let go of the entire Super Falcons coaching team. The decision takes effect immediately.

The NFF Executive Committee made the call on Monday. The federation announced it on X:

“The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the @NGSuper Falcons to step down with immediate effect.”

It is a tough moment for Nigeria’s women’s team. The Super Falcons have won the Africa Cup 9 times, but this year things went wrong.

At the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria had its worst result ever. For the first time, the team did not reach the semi-finals. They were knocked out in the quarter-finals after losing 1-0 to Cameroon.

That loss also meant Nigeria missed out on a direct ticket to the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Falcons still had a second chance through the playoffs. First, they had to beat South Africa in the African playoff. Then they would face the inter-continental playoff.

But it did not work out. South Africa beat Nigeria 2-1 and ended the Falcons’ World Cup dream.

This is the first time since 1991 that Nigeria will not play at the Women’s World Cup.

The NFF has not announced who will take over the team yet. The decision comes after many fans and football lovers asked for changes, following years of the Super Falcons dominating in Africa.
