Judge Approves 30-Day Hold on KC Luxury as NDLEA Deepens Drug Trafficking Probe

Popular socialite Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, better known as KC Luxury, will remain in NDLEA custody for another month after a Lagos court approved the agency’s request to extend his detention.

Justice Akintayo Aluko granted the order on August 20 to give the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency more time to investigate allegations against him, The Cable reported.

KC Luxury was picked up by NDLEA officers on August 13 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport while he was said to be heading to Paris.

The arrest followed the interception of 184.5kg of cocaine. The NDLEA described the seizure as the largest ever made from a courier firm in the country.

Chairman of the agency, Buba Marwa, told the court that the socialite was in possession of €7,750, £2,800, N100,000 and luxury jewelry at the time of his arrest. Another suspect, Lawal Kehinde, who works with a logistics company linked to the package, was also arrested.

Investigators told the judge that Nigeria is being used to move illegal drugs to the UK, Europe and Asia. The NDLEA called KC Luxury a central player in the network behind the shipment.

On Thursday, the socialite asked the court to review his detention. His father, Eric Afolabi, filed the application before Justice Friday Ogazi. It argued that KC Luxury has been held since August 13 without being told what offense he committed or charged in court.

His lawyers want the court to declare the detention unlawful and a violation of his right to liberty.

Justice Ogazi ordered the NDLEA to reply to the claims within five days and to bring KC Luxury to court for the next hearing. He also said the agency must be served with the court documents within four working days. The hearing was set for September 9.

In another filing on August 14 with case number FHC/LAG/MISC/1199/2026, the federal government asked for a 30-day extension to allow the NDLEA to finish its investigation. The court granted that too.

The judge also placed a temporary freeze on bank accounts linked to KC Luxury’s BVN. The accounts cannot be accessed until the investigation is completed or charges are filed.

The court will sit again on September 17 to hear an update from the NDLEA.

KC Luxury is still being held by the anti-drug agency.
