President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to protect the country’s togetherness, warning that no disagreement should tear the nation apart.
Represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin at a gathering in Abuja on Tuesday, the President said conversation is key to holding Nigeria together. He also assured that his administration is focused on tackling insecurity and restoring peace.
“We must remain united as one people, no matter our differences,” Tinubu said. “Let us talk through our issues and keep this country whole.”
APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, echoed the same message. He cautioned political actors against using faith and tribe as tools to win elections.
Speaking from personal experience as someone displaced during the Bauchi crisis, Yilwatda said violence does not spare anyone.
“Violence doesn’t check if you are Christian or Muslim before it ruins homes and strips people of their dignity,” he stated.
He stressed that while Nigerians may practice different religions, they share common pains, hopes and goals.
“We pray in different ways, but we hurt together. We hope together. We can grow together. In the end, our future is tied together,” he said.
The APC leader warned that chasing political wins through ethnic and religious division could leave lasting scars.
“No election win is worth breaking the nation,” Yilwatda said. “We see the damage of that politics every single day.”
