‘No Rift With Assembly’ — Fubara Says Rivers 2026 Budget On Track

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has shut down talk of a cold war with the Rivers State House of Assembly over the 2026 budget.

Rumors picked up steam after the governor’s N1.85 trillion proposal, presented to Speaker Martin Amaewhule and lawmakers on July 10, stayed in the Assembly for over a month without passage.

On Wednesday, Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, stepped in to set the record straight. In a statement titled ‘Fubara, Not at Loggerheads With Rivers State House of Assembly’, he said there’s no fight to see here.

“The budget is simply going through the normal legislative process,” Nzeshi explained. “Once the Assembly concludes its work, it will become law.”

He added that the governor is fully committed to working hand-in-hand with lawmakers to deliver results for Rivers people.

The statement also called out what it described as attempts to stir up drama where none exists.

“Rivers has been through enough rough patches,” it said. “What we need now is peace, not politics of division. Development can only happen when the executive and legislature pull in the same direction.”

The clarification comes amid speculation that unresolved differences were responsible for the delay in passing the N1.85tn appropriation bill.
